Elkins High School has seen significant improvements to its athletic department over the past few years. The upgrades include new bleachers, a modernized track and turf, and a state-of-the-art scoreboard. These enhancements have not only boosted the school’s facilities but also positively impacted the community.
The bleachers, which cost $800,000, were constructed between September and October 2021. This upgrade provides ample seating for spectators and enhances the overall game-day experience. The track and turf project, which began in May 2022 and concluded in September 2022, was a major undertaking, costing $1.6 million. The new turf was specifically installed to prevent damage to the natural grass and reduce maintenance efforts. The Board of Education covered most of these expenses, showing their commitment to supporting school athletics.
Additionally, the Boosters played a crucial role by building fences around the campus for $17,000 and completing concrete work costing $50,000. The scoreboard, a significant addition valued at $244,000, was generously funded by donations from Davis Trust Company and Citizens Bank. These contributions have collectively enhanced the athletic environment at Elkins High School, ensuring that students have top-notch facilities for their sports activities.
Although there have already been a good amount of improvements, there is still much more in store. This is to provide the students and community with the best sports amenities. There were already many recent developments but there are even more to be made.
Elkins High School ‘s baseball program is set for a few big changes. These transformations are aiming to enhance playing performance and spectator experience. One of the biggest priorities is a new press box, which can provide a centralized space for game-day. This will include announcers, scorekeepers, and media coverage. This will improve communication and experience for the fans.
Another improvement will be installing new bleachers for the baseball area. This would provide more comfortable and accessible seating. The current seating is old and limiting. Plus it will let a larger number of people show up to support the Tigers. There will also be plans to develop accessible pathways, making sure fans will be able to navigate the facility during the games.
In the players perspective one of the more important changes is the batting cages being added into the mix. This will give the athletes an area solely to refine their hitting skills.This will be very helpful during bad weather and offseason. Along with this a goal is to enhance field maintenance efforts, ensuring a well groomed area.
Not just that, but there is a multi-phase plan to transform our athletic stadium into a modern facility. This long term project is made to improve the overall functionality of our current facility. Ensuring students and parents have access to top tier facilities.
The first phase of the stadium has already been completed. It essentially focused on the groundwork updates. This was the turf field and track.
The second phase is spectator and game day enhancements. This phase has some finished components and some that are in progress. The parts that were completed already were the new bleachers, and the scoreboard. As of now a modern press box is in the works. This will provide more coverage and upgraded technology. Additional lighting is also in the progress of being added. This will be mainly for lighting up night games more effectively.
These upgrades aren’t just for the benefit of our teams, but the overall look of our stadium. This will make the stadium much more attractive for visiting teams.
The third phase is focused on facility expansion and athlete support areas. This would include a new field house. Which consists of new locker rooms, training area, and meeting spaces for teams. There would also be concession stands and restroom facilities. We already have these features, but this would provide an upgrade for said facilities. Another component would be improved parking and accessibility features.
These upgrades will make our stadium into a state-of-the-art facility that will support not only sports, but community events and youth athletics as well.
All these upgrades will cost a huge amount of money. That is why for said updates donations and fundraisers are in place. Elkins High School is slowly getting better, and better.
