Tigers’ Life In The Fast Lane Against Buccaneers
The Elkins High School swim team claimed another victory against Buckhannon Upshur High School last Wednesday at D&E. The girls managed to achieve a score of 88 points and the boys 73. This gained the team an overall score of 161 points. The swimmers will continue their 2022-2023 season with a 2-0 winning streak and at least 5 years of defeating the Buccaneers.
In the girls 200 yard medley relay, Sparks, Ujvagi, DeWeese, and Shryock acquired a 1st place win with a time of 2:04.96. Another 1st place was obtained in the girls 400 yard freestyle relay, swam by Ujvagi, Carte, DeWeese, and Shryock. Other notable girls wins were accomplished by Rachel Shryock in the 500 yard freestyle, claiming the 1st place title (5:47.04). Ujvagi swam her way into 1st place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:14.78). In the 100 yard freestyle, Carte also finished in 1st place (1:06.26). Another 1st place was obtained by Braelynn Sparks in the 50 yard freestyle (28.99).
Swimmers Masten, White, Anger, and C. Brown managed 1st in the boys 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.93. This relay team also completed 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.20. In the boys 400 yard freestyle relay, Zhu, G. Brown, Jones, and C. Brown came in 1st place with a time of 5:14.10. The boys also had notable wins by Masten in the 200 yard freestyle, securing another 1st place for the Tigers (2:28.40). Anger accomplished two 1st place wins last Wednesday in the 50 yard freestyle (21.96) and the 100 yard butterfly (55.28). In the 500 yard freestyle, Jones also finished in 1st place (7:51.62).
This week they will go head to head against Grafton and Notre Dame on Monday at Alderson Broaddus University, Robert C. Bryd and Liberty on Wednesday at Davis and Elkins College, and Bridgeport, Fairmont Sr., and Robert C. Byrd on Saturday at The Bridge.
