National Honor Society Inducts New Members

NHS Celebrates 42 New Members

The Elkins High School chapter of the National Honor Society hosted its induction ceremony on December 9, 2022. It was held at 9:45 a.m. in the morning at the Elkins High School Auditorium. National Honor Society is an organization for high schoolers that promotes character, leadership services and gives scholarships. There were quite a few juniors and seniors that applied, but only 42 were accepted into the organization.

The students are inducted by receiving a bell that says believe, then the inductees receive a membership card with their name and the pledge of National Honors Society printed on the back. Once every inductee has been announced all of the new members stand and recite the pledge of the National Honors Society.
A current member of National Honor Society, Kendall, was contributing and supporting her fellow classmates as they were inducted. Kendall stated, “Keep pushing forward and do what you need to do because high school doesn’t last forever”.

One of the inductees, Jon talks about his reason behind applying. Jon said, “The main reason I applied for NHS is because it looks great on a college scholarship, and it will help me land some scholarships because college is really expensive.”
