Elkins High School students and faculty members have all been affected by changes this year. Although there aren’t many changes, it still has a strong impact on their daily lives. Some are frustrated by these changes, while others appreciate them.
“The only change I can think of is the lunch shift changing from 3 to 2”, Layla F. said.
Most students talked about the lunch shift change. This school year instead of having three lunch shifts they dropped down to only having 2. These splits were made based on what each student’s third block was.
“I feel like when there were 3 lunches it was more spread out and less crowded,” said Layla F.
The lunchroom is pretty packed during both lunches. It is a challenge to get to and from the lunchrooms because of this. The restrooms have decent-sized lines to get into them. Layla added that when there were 3 lunches, it had a good amount of space. There were also smaller crowds. However, teachers had a different take.
“We have been having less disturbances in the hallways due to having 2 lunch shifts”, Shanna Parlock said.
On the teacher side of this change it holds more kids in the same place. It has less people going in and out to new areas. Not only that, but during their planning period they have less interruptions.
“Having 2 lunch shifts is much better as a teacher and for the students.” Parlock said.
