High school clubs can be seen as a hub of community, a way to express creative thinking, and a great way to improve your portfolio for college or job applications. While picking clubs to join it is important to know your options, and pick something that genuinely interests you. Elkins High School offers a variety of different clubs that can help you reach your goals, or keep your mind interested.
One club at Elkins High School is the Board Game Club advised by Mr. Duncan. Board Game Club is a club where students play card games, board games, and strategy games that appeal to a wide audience of people. The main goal is teambuilding, learn how to work well with others, and gain an understanding of new skills. Ducan says, “I would encourage others to join because I think if you can learn and have fun it’s a very good combination and something I think that people need more of. Especially in the kind of learning that you sometimes can’t get through electronics.” If you are interested in team building and games you should join the Board Game Club!
Another club that is offered is Key Club. Key Club is a student ran club, advised by Ms. Phipps, Ms. Brosky, and Mr. Rosencrance where they participate in community service, work with the high school chapter of the Kiwanis Club, and take part in activities for the community. The main goal for the key club is to create community service activities, and develop leadership skills, and give back to the community. Advisor Ms. Phipps says, “I would encourage others to join because leadership skills are something everybody can use, and being a bigger part of a community is something that transcends just the traditional classroom.” If you are interested in community service leadership you should join Key Club!
