On November 7th, Elkins High School invited our local service men and women to an honorable assembly and reception. During the assembly, the Student body president, Cathrynne Tenney, introduced each veteran. The band welcomed the veterans with “America the Beautiful” and played songs representing each military branch. Elkins High School Choir also performed a small concert to honor and entertain the veterans during the reception. The first Veterans Day was originally called “Armistice Day” and was proclaimed by President Wilson to occur on November 11th, 1919. It has always been a day to honor those who’ve given their time to protect and fight for our country, and Elkins High School is thankful to have welcomed and respected our veterans on this day.
