At five p.m. on February 4th, another Board of Education meeting was held. In this meeting they addressed multiple issues including the school calendar.
The school calendar discussion began by stating that students must have a calendar with 180 days of instruction, seniors with 175 days of instruction, E-Learning days included. The following school year is guaranteed a spring break meaning no matter the weather, that week cannot be retracted. They gave two calendar options that are currently in review.
On the first calendar, the first day of instruction for the following year is going to be August 15th, 2025 and the first day for all students will be Monday, August 18th, 2025. The end of the first semester will be December 22, 2025 and the last day of the instructional term will be June 2nd, 2026. That means we will have 83 days in the first semester and 97 days in the second semester.
On the second calendar, the first day of instruction for the following year is going to be August 19th, 2025 and the first day for all students will be Wednesday, August 10th, 2025. The end of the first semester will be January 9th, 2025 and the last day of the instructional term will be June 4th, 2026. That means we will have 86 days in the first semester and 94 days in the second semester.
There have been 11 votes for calendar one as it is more conducive to dual credit courses, better for 8th grade students that take EHS courses, aligns closely with the college schedule, first semester would end before Christmas break, and ends earlier in June. There have been 9 votes for the second calendar due to the beginning of the school year beginning on a Wednesday instead of a Monday.
The Calendar Committee will reconvene after a few meetings to decide which calendar will go before the Board.
