On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Elkins High School students will have the opportunity to watch the Rustic Mechanics, West Virginia’s Shakespeare Troupe, perform The Tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare. Tickets are priced at $13 and can be purchased from Mr. Carroll or Ms. Armstrong. The performance will take place during 2nd and 3rd blocks.
“Shakespeare’s themes are timeless and universal, and it’s always a good opportunity to bring the joy of live theater and Shakespeare’s life lessons to our students.” Ms. Armstrong said.
The Tragedy of Macbeth tells the story of Macbeth, a Scottish general who encounters three witches who predict that he will become king. Driven by their prophecy and encouraged by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne. However, his newfound power leads to overwhelming guilt and paranoia, pushing him toward further violence. He orders the deaths of his friend Banquo and the family of Macduff, fueling more chaos. As Macbeth descends into madness, his enemies unite against him, culminating in his death at the hands of Macduff and the crowning of Duncan’s son, Malcolm.
