On November 6th through the 8th, Elkins High School Theatre will be performing The Velveteen Rabbit in the Elkins High School auditorium. Shows on the 6th and 7th will take place at 7 pm and at 3 pm on the 8th.
“Everyone loves the story, The actual story Velveteen Rabbit, including the kids in it, so they’ll make it as possible to do the book justice,” Says Jennifer Armstrong, the director of the show.
The Velveteen Rabbit follows a toy rabbit who just wants to be loved by a real child. The toy is gifted to a child for Christmas, but is initially ignored and left while he plays with the “fancier” toys. As the story goes on, the kid slowly begins to play with and love the velveteen rabbit. However, the child becomes ill, and the room must be cleaned, leaving the velveteen rabbit to be thrown away. But with magic, the velveteen rabbit becomes a real rabbit and joins the other rabbits in the forest.
“The moment I realized I was the main character, it was stressful, because it’s the first time I’ve ever been in a play as the main character, so it’s a brand new challenge for me, so it’s stressful but exciting.” Says Leo Hsieh, who is playing the Velveteen Rabbit.
Tickets will cost $10 and will be available for purchase at the ticket booth on show nights.
