Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Henry Ruggs has been released after a fatal DUI crash that killed a woman and her dog in the early morning hours on Tuesday, November 2nd. Ruggs was going 156 miles per hour at the time of impact, according to prosecutors. Ruggs had a blood alcohol content level that was twice Nevada’s legal limit before he crashed into the rear end of the victim’s car, which caught fire after the impact, according to the prosecutors.

Ruggs also had a loaded gun in his car at the time of the crash. He appeared in court Wednesday, November 3rd, seated in a wheelchair and wearing a neck brace. He has been charged with a DUI resulting in death and reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm. According to the Athletic Ruggs offenses, both fall under category B of Nevada law and are the second most severe level of felony in Nevada. If convicted, Ruggs could face 2-20 years in prison for the first charge, and 1-6 for the second. 

According to statistics, drunk driving kills 28 people per day in car crashes per year, or one person every 52 minutes. Male drunk drivers are also more likely to be involved in a crash related to drunk driving than females, because there are 75% fewer female drunk drivers when compared to male drunk drivers.
