Senior Sophia was awarded a full scholarship to Marshall University School of Arts and Design during their annual portfolio review. Sophia’s portfolio was selected as one of the top three portfolios submitted out of a field of over 25 applicants.

Marshall University states that the award “is an impressive achievement and merits recognition and encouragement for you to continue to pursue a professional career in the arts.”

Faculty reviewers noted that her work had a “..level of anatomy and proportions is very high” and “understand[ing] proportions and how to render well.”

This award is to help Sophia excel in either the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program, or in Marshall’s Bachelor of Arts programs. This tuition scholarship is also applicable to the Bachelor of Arts in Art Education that is offered by Marshall’s College of Education.

The Elkins High School Art Department offers a comprehensive four course program and additional courses in ceramics.
