Update – 9:40 a.m.
Emilia T. and Julia B. led the girls to a third place team finish. Emilia finished in third with a new personal best of 18:55 Julia was close behind in sixth place crossing the line in just over twenty minutes.
Update – 10:26 a.m.
Sophomore, Trevor G., captured the individual victory in a calculated and decisive victory over Ryan H. of Frankfurt. Trevor crossed the line in 16:09. Three more Tigers, Ben T., Josh B., and Gavin B. finished in the top ten to earn all-state recognition.
Freshman, Treven S. rounded out scoring with a 29th place finish.
The impressive individual performances helped the Tigers capture the team championship.
The Race
This morning, the boys’ and girls’ country teams toe the line for a state championship at Cabell Midland High School. The boys’ team looks to capture their first state championship since 1979, while the girls’ look to reach the podium for the first time since their runner-up finish in 2002.
The boys enter the race as the top-ranked team according to the RunWV.com power rankings. Sophomore Trevor G. and junior Josh B. top the rankings and are followed close by sixth and seventh-ranked runners junior Ben T. and senior Gavin B.
The girls enter the race ranked third behind Williamstown and Frankfort. Sophomore Emilia T., who enters the race ranked third according to RunWV.com, looks to build on the momentum started at her defeat of the top-ranked runner at the regional meet. Ninth-ranked sophomore Julia B., looks to earn an all-state finish and push the team to the top the results.
