For the first time since 1979, the state cross-country title will return to Elkins. With a decisive victory over Frankfort, the Tigers ended their season on top.
The Tigers demonstrated their patience as they tactically worked their way through the pack making significant moves after the mile mark.
Trevor G. made his decisive move just before the two mile mark and his teammates followed his cue. By the time, he entered the track to finish he had a sizable lead over second place. The sophomore crossed the line to complete the 5K distance in 16:09.
Trevor’s individual victory is first individual title since Tim Lucas’s win in 1986.
Following closely behind, were juniors Ben T. and Josh B. Running together the enter race, the pair moved into third and fourth place near the two mile mark and held the position over the final mile.
The sole senior, Gavin B., made significant gains over the final mile to finish in ninth place in 16:42.
Freshman, Treven S, rounded out scoring for the team with a 29th place finish in a personal best time of 17:48.
The sixth and seventh runners, while not contributing to the team score, serve to increase the scores of other teams and break ties.
Bobby V. and Preston N. fulled that role place in front of scoring runners from Frankfort and Williamstown.
