Boys Are #7 In New Poll; Girls Get Votes

Elkins boys will go into the final month of the regular season ranked #7 in AAA. During the month it showed that the Tigers deserved to be in the top 10 after convincing wins over Lincoln, Hampshire County, Robert C. Byrd and Grafton. They also showed that they shouldn’t be high in the top 10 after dropping contests to top 10 opponents at the time in North Marion, Fairmont Senior, East Fairmont and with a loss to unranked Bridgeport. Odds are that Elkins will stay in the top 10 to at least regional play as Elkins finished with a clean sweep of sectional opponents, winning each by an average of 17 points. Near the end of January, Elkins seems to have been struck with the injury bug. Hopefully that won’t affect them come tournament time. Elkins currently sit at 9-7 on the season.

Elkins girls received a single vote for the top 10 before entering the month of February. Due to February being a new month, they can forget the month they had in January. The Lady Tigers opened up 2023 by dropping 5 of their 6 games of 2023 to opponents like Lincoln, North Marion, Fairmont Senior, Martinsburg and East Fairmont. The Lady Tigers were able to end the month on the right foot winning three of their last four against Grafton, Lewis County and Bridgeport. Elkins’ spot in the section is still up in the air with a section opponent still to play in Robert C. Byrd. They so far have gone 1-1 in their section with both being close games. There could be a chance that the Elkins girls could find themselves in the top 10 by season end. The Lady Tigers currently sit at 9-7.
