Elkins Upsets #3 Ripley In State Tournament

On Thursday morning, the #6 Elkins Tigers faced the #3 Ripley Vikings in the State Tournament in Charleston. The first quarter was a back and forth affair with Elkins finishing the quarter with a slight lead. Elkins had an explosive second quarter that led them going into the locker room with a 32-20 lead. Ripley had a great third, by tying the game but two quick threes let Elkins have a six point lead going into the fourth. Elkins was able to get their offensive mojo back as Elkins upsets Ripley and gets their first win in the State tournament since 1950 with a final score of 60-49. Watson led all scoring with 24 points. Johnson led all Viking scoring with 17 points. Elkins will take on #2 Fairmont Senior on Friday, March 17th.
