On Friday night, the #6 Elkins Tigers met the #2 Fairmont Senior Polar Bears in the semifinals of the AAA state tournament. The first quarter was a back and forth affair with Elkins pulling out a 1 point lead at the end. In the second, Fairmont Senior had full control of the game scoring 20 points while limiting the Tigers to 6 points as the Polar Bears went into halftime up 34-21. The Tigers were once again held to single digit points as the Fairmont lead continued to get larger and larger. In the fourth, Fairmont Senior pulled their starters and Elkins took advantage. But as the lead got smaller and smaller, the starters came back in and the run ended as Fairmont Senior defeats Elkins 66-49. Dobbs led all scoring with 24 points. Watson led all Tiger scoring with 20 points. The Tigers finish the historic season with an overall record of 17-10. The Tigers will look completely different next season as they lose 9 seniors that include Harper, Watson, Jackson, Miller, O’Neil, McCauley, Baines, Bragg, and Harlan.
