Tigers Struggle In Myrtle Beach

Over the past weekend, Elkins baseball traveled to Myrtle Beach to face a set of opponents. They started the weekend against the Vikings of Mt. Pleasant (PA). Elkins was able to shut out the Vikings in the top of the first inning and have an early 3-0 lead. In the 2nd inning, Mt. Pleasant was able to push 4 runs across taking a 4-3 lead. In the third inning, Mt. Pleasant was able to outrun Elkins 3-2 to extend their lead to 7-5. In the fourth inning, Mt. Pleasant blew the game wide open with a 5 run inning to make the score 12-5. Elkins still had no answer for Mt. Pleasant as they scored 4 more runs in the fifth which led to a final score of 16-5. Mt. Pleasant finished with a stat line of 16 runs, 12 hits, and 1 error. Elkins finished with a stat line of 5 runs, 6 hits and 7 errors. Elkins drops to 1-4 on the season.
Later in the same day, they took on the Vikings of Central Catholic (PA). In the first inning, both teams were shutout. However, in the second inning the Vikings were able to push across 7 runs, taking a 7-0 lead. Things were still going the Vikings way in the third getting 2 more runs across, extending their lead to 9-0. In the fourth inning, the Vikings had another big inning, scoring 5 more runs, while blanking the Tigers again, extending the lead to 14-0. Both teams shutout each other in the fifth as Central Catholic wins 14-0. Central Catholic finished with a stat line of 14 runs, 9 hits, and 2 errors. Elkins finished with a stat line of 0 runs, 2 hits, and 3 errors. Elkins falls to a record of 1-5.
Elkins were back in action the next day to take on the Eagles of South Park. In the first inning, both sides shut each other out. In the second, South Park scored a grand total of 17 runs while shutting out Elkins. In the third inning, both were shut out and Elkins was mercied after three innings with a final score of 17-0. South Park finished with a statline of 17 runs, 12 hits, and 0 errors. Elkins finishes with a statline of 0 runs, 1 hit, and 2 errors. Elkins falls to a record of 1-6.
Elkins was in action one last time to take on the South Park Eagles once again. In the first inning, the Eagles were shutout in the first while Elkins pushed across a couple of runs to take an early 2-0 lead. In the second inning, South Park were able to push 2 runs across while shutting out Elkins to even the score at 2-2. In the third inning, South Park was able to get a good 4 runs to open the game wide open 6-2. Elkins were able to cut into it with a run of their own making it 6-3 after three. In the fourth inning, the Eagles were able to keep their momentum slightly, getting a run across to make the score 7-3 while Elkins was able to score 4 runs in their half of the inning tying the game at 7. In the fifth inning, South Park had a dominant 14 run inning, similar to the inning they had the game prior. Elkins was shutout in their half of the inning as the game ended by mercy with the final score of 21-7. South Park finishes with a stat line of 21 runs, 9 hits, and 0 errors. Elkins finishes with a stat line of 7 runs, 6 hits, and 4 errors. Elkins falls to a record of 1-7 and will be back in action on Monday, March 27th to take on the Huskies of North Marion.
