Veterans Day Assembly
Every year, Elkins High School holds a Veterans Day assembly to honor those who have served, gathering teachers and students together in the auditorium and instills a quiet atmosphere while listening to a presentation.
It begins with the national anthem before the introduction to the American flag, showcasing how to fold it and what each of the 13 folds represent to U.S citizens.
“The American flag that we all serve under and that U.S citizens are protected by and guaranteed freedom.” A member of The American Legion said.
After, Mike Kesecker, an Operations Manager for Elkins West Virginia, steps up to the podium and presents a speech. Consisting of the life of his father who served and his grandfather who was a soldier in the war, who motivated Kesecker to become a first responder in the military. His theme centering the speech was surrounded by the commitment and sacrifice soldiers go through.
At the very end the veterans that came to the school were offered a wreath with red, white, and blue ribbons around it. A simple gift to show appreciation.
