Mrs. Simon also shared that if she could change one thing at Elkins, it would be to have an advisor period during the first period in the morning. This way, students could get their breakfast first and then start their classes. I believe this would help students get their talking out of the way so they can focus better during their lessons.
One of the biggest challenges Mrs. Simon has faced since starting here is figuring out each student’s different learning style. She has to change how she teaches to fit the needs of every student so they can grow and understand better.
Her biggest goal for Elkins High School is for everyone to keep learning and doing their best for the students. She wants all students to have a chance to succeed in life and graduate. She said, “I want us to keep working hard and make sure every student feels supported and valued.”
Mrs. Simon began working at Elkins High School in October. She teaches advanced math modeling, transition math, and Algebra 1.
She really enjoys all her classes because she loves helping students understand math. She likes going through each question step by step with students on paper before they have to take a quiz.
“I enjoy working at Elkins because I like being around the students and find happiness in helping others learn,” Simon said. She feels a strong purpose in making sure students understand their lessons.
