Recently, students participated in activities for Celebrate Freedom Week. The initiative established by the West Virginia legislature seeks to have students recognize the importance of Freedom Week.
According to the West Virginia Department of Education the purpose of the week is to “The purpose of Celebrate Freedom Week is to educate students about the sacrifices made for freedom in the founding of this country and the values on which this country was founded.”
Every social studies teacher must have a lesson on Constitution Day. “We are U.S. citizens and we need to learn our rights and laws.” Social studies teacher Ms. Roth said.
Students had to do an assignment in each of their social studies classes. “I learned quite a bit about freedom week, and what it means to American.” Bella Starcher said.
“I don’t know why it’s a law to Celebrate Freedom Week but I’m glad that we have a chance to learn about it during school hours.” Roxanne Chewning said.
